Show notes:
In the first segment, our panelists discuss the Department of Justice’s recent efforts to defend religious liberty under the Trump administration. From launching a task force to eradicate anti-Christian bias, to investigating Washington’s new law forcing priests to break the seal of confession, the DOJ has signaled a sharp commitment to protecting faith communities. Panelists also explore how the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA) has been used to safeguard churches and religious groups from zoning and land use discrimination.
In the second segment of the show, we explore the court case Kloosterman v. Metropolitan Hospital, where a veteran nurse practitioner was fired after requesting a religious accommodation during diversity training. Kloosterman argued that affirming gender statements against her beliefs violated her conscience. The hospital refused her request and dismissed her, prompting a legal challenge that raises profound questions about religious freedom, workplace rights, and the boundaries of faith in professional life.
