Show notes:
In the first segment, our panelists discuss the election of Pope Leo XIV, the first American Pope, and what his leadership could mean for the growing right-wing movement within the U.S. Church. Though hailed by some for his American roots, Pope Leo’s concern for the poor, immigrants, and his critique of nationalist politics have drawn sharp criticism from Trump-aligned Catholics, raising questions about faith, politics, and the future direction of Catholic influence in U.S. public life.
In the second segment of the show, we explore the court case Hittle v. The City of Stockton, where longtime firefighter and former Fire Chief Ron Hittle was fired after attending a Christian leadership conference. Hittle claims his termination was due to religious discrimination, sparking debate about faith expression in the workplace. The case also reignites legal scrutiny over the McDonnell Douglas framework, which some Supreme Court justices say has confused rulings on employment discrimination.
